Robert A Bothman, Inc completed the installation of 2,000 square feet of synthetic, Field Turf™, turf this month as part of a continued program of sustainable, green actions that are a significant factor in the company’s success.
The current corporate HQ has a solar roof that was installed in 2000 and will pay for itself in 2008. Richard Lemus, Executive Director of Facilities and Operations, explained that while the solar roof is a large and obvious sign of the company’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact it is only part of the program.
“Our project managers are now driving hybrids and small fuel efficient vehicles. We promote carpooling among our employees. In the office we recycle all plastics, glass and paper and all our communal areas are controlled by motion sensing lighting,” Lemus added.
The installation of the synthetic turf and a reduction in maintenance intensive landscaping at the corporate site will allow RAB to maintain year round “curb appeal” while significantly reducing its water, chemical and energy consumption.
In addition to the environmental benefits of such a program RAB is also able to financially benefit from its green business strategy. “We receive credit from PG&E for our electricity and I expect the synthetic turf will impact our water bill by at least 20%. When you factor in $300 per month on maintenance savings soon add up.” Lemus said
The responsible attitude extends to the smallest detail. Business Development and Marketing Manager, Andy Lambert, explained, “This is the first company I’ve worked for where all employees turn off their lights when they leave their office – every time!”
